Teachers equip to recognize potential of technology

Many teachers do not have the technical knowledge or skills to recognize the potential for technology in teaching and learning. Just knowing how to use a computer is not enough.

I agree that knowing how to used a computer is not enough, this is why as teachers we have to developed the techinical slills of how to properly and effectively used the computer to enhance learning in our students.

Many teachers are not equip to recognize potential of technology. Many of our teachers that are teaching computers to the students have never taken a course in computers. Most of these teachers download lesson plans from the internet and teach it to the students without knowing the level of the lesson plan or how to teach it.

I agree........knowing the basics of computers is simply not enough to state that we are effective users of technology..............recognizing the potential of technology requires that we are critical thinkers, innovators and adventurers, as it is a journey towards discovering and using it effectively does and is not rooted to only to basic computer programs.

It is very good for teachers to be equip to recognize technolgy for it helps in improving the learning outcome of children for some of us learn differently and by doing and working with technology they can equip themselves to facilitate each child learning.

In this new Era, technology has to do with almost everything. And as teachers it is our responsibility of guiding students to become productive citizens. Therefore it is of utmost importance to update ourselves with what the world demands. As teachers it is our responsibility to research and keep uptodated with the changes of the world especially technology since it is being used in all fields. It is important to make it our business to be well informed and to seek help on how to use technology so that we can transmit that information to the students. How can we teach something that we don't know? So, it is neccessary that we learn first.

knowing to about how to use a computer is just not about only know how to type but getting to know the basic parts of the computer so that you can know what each part of the computer can be useful to you.

As teachers of children with varied learning abilities and styles, it is very important that we become computer literate and continue to research and update ourselves in order to make the most of the use of technology. Only if we know how to use it will we know the importance and potential in it.

teachers need to acquire more technical knowledge in order to be well equipped to recognize the potential of technology. indeed they cannot only achieve this through learning to use a computer; they need to acquire skills. these skills can only be obtained if the teacher has the willingness to learn and try new things. it is in their mindset that the teachers need to recognize that technology does have much positive potential. they need to recognize that their life will be much easier if technology is used more often than it normally is. they need to find the time to practice and try different things.

yes, there is more that knowing to use the computer............software advances everyday............keeping abreast with changes is a vital part of effectively keeping up wtih technology............i know comptuers, but i havd no clue of using powerpoint or database...........it is necesssary to educate ourselves with all that is out there or at least with as much as u can...........and it goes further in that we need to apply this new found knowledge and utilize it with confidence............take for instance electronically producing report cards............how much easier the lives of teachers this is..............inputting a little here and there as time permits...........and have it always available for parents to view...........or alteast their grades to show progress or lack of it there of,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.this is something that not us teachers are yet able to do.......but if trained well, we can adopt the usage and with practice, it will become easy

Mrs. this is true. there are teachers who are coming to UB and are having such problems. I see the confusion they encounter to simply compile a few power point. If we do not know how to use and benefit from the technologies we have around us then we are still in the stone age.

That is true, I believe that some teachers like to use the internet for research if given an assignment to them. But when it comes to using it with their children they cannot have the children interact in educational internet games and research done within the classroom.

Many teachers who started their profession before this technological era find it more difficult to adjust to the many benefits that computer and modern technology has to offer to the education system today. I was once one of these teachers and thought that computer was for the younger people who were “lazy” to think or were good in dealing with machines and other technical equipments. I now realize that computer has much to offer to the educational system and can assist everyone if it is properly accessed. However many teachers do not have the technical knowledge or skills to recognize the potential for technology in education. This can be for many different reasons but if workshops and courses are offered to educate the teachers first, then they will be able to better positively contribute to this new era in which we are moving. Knowing how to use a computer is only the first step but the process must continue so that Belize will be able to take its place in this technology era and for proper integration to take place. With proper education for teachers on the benefits of computer and how to impart this knowledge to their students then the transition towards the technology era will be much easier for all.
